Manipur Assembly Election 2027

Manipur's 60-seat assembly is split between the Imphal Valley districts (dominated by the Meitei community) and surrounding hill districts (largely Naga and Kuki-Zo communities), 20 of which are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The state was under President's Rule for part of 2025-26 following prolonged ethnic conflict between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities that began in 2023, making the 2027 election one of the most closely watched in the country, centred on questions of territorial reorganisation, displacement and reconciliation.
